KARVANSARAI
19th October - 11th November 2023
Karvansarai by the Irish collective Art Nomads represents a journey through the identities of the artists. In wider terms, it tells us about the experience of diaspora, trans global connections, and how each individual becomes a gateway to another part of the world. As nomads, we live in parallel worlds and exist in the constant paradox of “settling in”, integrating, but, at the same time, of not belonging to at any place. The place becomes important in this video when the Irish landscape means a geographical gathering point.
Karvansarai is a collaborative project that explores the exchanges, hybridisation and transformation, both individual and cultural. The video installation – which also includes manufacts belonging to the artists – is a tangible and virtual emporium that turns its attention to the artists’ histories. Karvansarai provides a context to stage discussion, debate, and further enquiry and has no language creating borders to understanding, need for translation or subtitles.
